ArticlesForestry report says statewide tree growth is ‘in the black’Forestry report says statewide tree growth is ‘in the black’More timber was grown last year in Georgia than was harvested, according to a new report from the Georgia Forestry Commission and the U. S. Forest Service. The survey showed that Georgia’s forested acreage remained stable at 24.4 million acres in 2010. Since 1972, the amount of forested acreage has varied by less than 2 percent. Georgia continues to have the most acres of privately owned forestland in the United States, with 91 percent of Georgia’s forests in private ownership. The forest industry has a $27.2 billion annual economic impact in Georgia, privately owned forestland for the state each year.
